Updated: Oct 14

Johnny's Story:
Johnny was born in Montebello, California, but soon moved to Yuma, Arizona, where he spent most of his childhood. After graduating from high school, he discovered his passion for dancing. He began training and quickly realized he excelled primarily in Jazz and Hip Hop, although he also appreciated Lyrical, Contemporary, and Ballet styles.
Following his dream of becoming an arts educator, from age 21 to 26 he taught students in local High Schools, became a sought-after choreographer for quinceañeras, and began his collegiate journey, auditioning for the Arizona Western College Matadors Dance team. He was named captain in his first year and, the following year, became head choreographer, where his choreography consistently featured Jazz, Pom, Side Lines, Hip-Hop, and Cheer!
In 2013, at 26, Johnny moved to California to follow and help his family where he was needed. Living in California, he tried again to pursue his dream, though things weren't meant to be just yet.
After an Achilles injury at 36, he decided to give dance another shot. This time, he returned in 2023 to change his lifestyle, mental health, and confidence. That year, he began teaching with one children’s class and one adult class. Today, 3 years later, you can find Johnny’s inspiration and love for dance growing and pouring into like-minded dancers at Level Up Dance Studio in Long Beach, CA. He now teaches 15+ children and adult classes, private lessons, and has created Breath of Hope Dance Company & BHDC Kidz!
Johnny is beyond blessed to share his love of dance with the community and truly aspires to keep helping those around him find PEACE, COMMUNITY, and HOPE while improving their CONFIDENCE, PHYSICAL, and MENTAL HEALTH.
